TEN DIES IN KASTINA CRASH

Ten people were feared dead while six others sustained in an accident which occurred yesterday morning on Katsina – Dutsinma Road in Katsina State.
The accident occurred three and half weeks after more than 20 people lost their lives when vehicles conveying them plunged into a collapsed bridge on Katsina – Kano Road. A witness told our correspondent that the accident occurred about 11.30am, adding that a one-year-old baby was among the victims. The witness, however, said the baby’s mother survived but was injured.
He said: “The accident happened after a Nissan bus, with registration number AA 479 JGW, swerved to avoid collusion with an oncoming vehicle but ended hitting a ditch beside the road.”
The witness said the impact caused the vehicle to somersault three times, adding that nine people, including the driver, lost their lives while several others sustained injuries. The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Habu Dauda, who confirmed the incident, said another victim later died at the Katsina General Hospital while being treated.
Dauda said the command found N678,000 inside the bus but that the money was later handed over to its owners after investigation and identification process was carried out. He, however, said the accident was caused by over speeding. The sector commander appealed to motorists to avoid over-speeding and obey traffic rules to minimize accidents.
